Fredericksburg Family Reunion and Secretariat

The Rowe family reunion was hosted again at the historic George Rowe House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I first attended in 2016 which had a much larger turnout, but they do plan to host another larger turn out in 2028 for their 200th anniversary of the Rowe homestead. The history is steep in the area, with the house in the middle of the battle of Fredericksburg during the War Between The States , it was besieged by Union troops who occupied the house , and my ancestors hid in the basement the entire time. They hosted spies for the Confederate army and were supporters of the cause, and they had much little left , as the food and supplies ran out, but cornmeal to offer the troops.  Historical context is important! I loved visiting Fredericksburg, which has a vibe similar to Beaufort, South Carolina. Some of the old veranda style of Fredericksburg is without match.  Sitting halfway betwixt Richmond and DC, it is often overlooked but it has a laid back appeal and is easy to love . I stopped by other sites including the Patawomeck Indian tribal headquarters. My family roots on that side go back to Pocahontas and other tribal members, so we have open invitation.  I was hoping some closer cousins could attend but they live in North Carolina.

George Rowe the Patriarch, is my 4th Great Grandfather, and my closest connection is his daughter, Lucy "Fanny" Rowe who is my 3rd Great Grandmother. However, that is only 4 generations back so not a big deal. After the war for Southern independence , Lucy Rowe (married to William King) moved to Richmond and settled there , connecting to my Richmond family lines.

The attendance was much smaller this year, but the house is still grand as ever

After the luncheon and speaker I went to Fredericksburg Battlefield site, and later The Patawomeck Indian headquarters to meet fellow Indian tribe members.

Also stopped by downtown Fredericksburg for a few shots. Not much time to get a lot in, however

On the way back to Richmond, I stopped by Ashland to see the Secretariat statue

I enjoyed going up to Fredericksburg and I took the nice country roads back home. What a pleasant outing . Richmond can really get me depressed some times, but these smaller towns give me enthusiasm.  Cherish every moment!
