Making People Happy as the Cow Mascot...

I enjoy doing the Cow Mascot for Chick-fil-a  immensely. It's such a rewarding experience. I get to act, entertain, perform, and get people to eat more chicken! So far,  this has been a very positive work experience for me. Whether it's just dancing around on the front lawn,  getting the children excited at Vacation Bible school, or making and meeting new friends, I think everyone just loves the cow! Many people ask to take pictures of the cow, (some times take "selfies"),  or just touch and pet the cow,  and it seems to make them happy. Young , or young at heart- people of all ages. Every now and then I get the occasional ruffian teenager who wants to pull on my tail, but most people are polite with it. Some of the teenagers ask me to "dab", and I have no idea what that is. I assume it's some jive dance, lol . I am not up on the latest moves.  So I just flap my arms like a chicken.

A few notes about the cow: the suit gets HOT! It's always about 15 to 20 degrees warmer than the outside temperature.  There are two fans in the head piece, but they usually do not work very well. I wear a cooling ice vest, though, and that does seem to  help.  The cow head itself is about 1 ft and a half tall. Being almost 5'11, I stand over 7 ft tall in the cow suit. Some times if I'm not careful, I hit my head on the door frame. Now I know what tall people go through!  Most of the little children love the cow, but some are afraid, so I keep my distance,  and let the kids come to me. Most parents have good common sense not to throw a baby at me either. But every now and then I have to be careful, because I can't always see those little ones in front of me. Since I don't like to really be touched or hugged by people, the suit adds an extra layer of protection from  germs. It also helps with my sensory issues!

Here are some pics from a day on the job:

I have to admit, the cow looks handsome! I don't have to worry about not looking my best when in the suit. I just let myself go. I hope to prepare myself, because this could lead to more mascot gigs in the future- perhaps even the big leagues or professional wrestling. I just love my job!

Lee Jackson Day Weekend- Lexington VA!

Although the Commonwealth of Virginia sadly no longer recognizes Lee-Jackson Day Weekend, many Virginians still honor and celebrate it. Here are a just a few shots from Lee-Jackson Day weekend in Lexington ! There was an awesome parade we did through downtown Lexington , which was preceeded by a memorial service at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. I marched with a large group of close to 100 people, and many spectators on the street waved and said "God Bless, Y'all!" to us. We got  almost all positive feedback and encouragement. The town itself is run by liberals, but many that live there are not on that side , and are real patriots. I enjoyed walking through Lexington, I haven't been there in many many years. On my way back, I stopped at the Depot Grille in Staunton, Virginia- a fun restaurant which was converted from an actual railroad depot. My waitress was a doll. The weather was chilly, but bearable.  It was a fun time overall !                                   ( Fi

October Recap: Show At The Wayside Inn and Belle Grove

In early October I sang at Larrick's Tavern, located in the beautiful Wayside Inn. I had stayed at the Wayside Inn before when I had a show at Gospel Fest in June. I somehow keep returning to the northwest corner of Virginia. There's a nice church in Winchester called Crossroads Community Chapel that I like to visit when I'm there. My show went well and I met the owners. I also got to have a tour of Belle Grove plantation down the road ,on the site of "Cedar Creek" Battlefield. The whole area is said to be "haunted", but I just rebuke whatever is there. Usually hauntings are demonic in nature. The first time I stayed at the Wayside Inn, I was in the "Lee Room" in the newer part of the hotel on the ground floor. It was named for General Lee. This time I stayed in the "Jefferson Room" on the 3rd floor in the oldest part of the hotel. Each hotel room is unique in design and named after a historic figure. Ironically, in the Jefferson roo

Day At The Park

A lovely spring day lead me to Robius Landing Park . I enjoyed a stroll around nature and seeing the dogwoods in bloom. The river is quite nice, and the park is generally free from riff raff or unsavory elements. It's nice to get out of the city limits. Feels safe and fresh.  It was around 70 degrees and very windy but enjoyable. I saw people walking their dogs and they seemed to also be local.
