South Carolina Trip Part 1: Columbia

I had the opportunity to perform for an outdoor market in Charleston, SC, and I decided I would do some sight seeing as well! The first night I stopped in the state capital, Columbia. A very fresh and friendly town with an upbeat vibe. Plenty of great eats at Five Points. My hotel was at the University of South Carolina and within walking distance to most of the historical area. Lee Jackson Day Weekend- Lexington VA!

Although the Commonwealth of Virginia sadly no longer recognizes Lee-Jackson Day Weekend, many Virginians still honor and celebrate it. Here are a just a few shots from Lee-Jackson Day weekend in Lexington ! There was an awesome parade we did through downtown Lexington , which was preceeded by a memorial service at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. I marched with a large group of close to 100 people, and many spectators on the street waved and said "God Bless, Y'all!" to us. We got almost all positive feedback and encouragement. The town itself is run by liberals, but many that live there are not on that side , and are real patriots. I enjoyed walking through Lexington, I haven't been there in many many years. On my way back, I stopped at the Depot Grille in Staunton, Virginia- a fun restaurant which was converted from an actual railroad depot. My waitress was a doll. The weather was chilly, but bearable. It was a fun time overall ! ...

Fredericksburg Family Reunion and Secretariat

The Rowe family reunion was hosted again at the historic George Rowe House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I first attended in 2016 which had a much larger turnout, but they do plan to host another larger turn out in 2028 for their 200th anniversary of the Rowe homestead. The history is steep in the area, with the house in the middle of the battle of Fredericksburg during the War Between The States , it was besieged by Union troops who occupied the house , and my ancestors hid in the basement the entire time. They hosted spies for the Confederate army and were supporters of the cause, and they had much little left , as the food and supplies ran out, but cornmeal to offer the troops. Historical context is important! I loved visiting Fredericksburg, which has a vibe similar to Beaufort, South Carolina. Some of the old veranda style of Fredericksburg is without match. Sitting halfway betwixt Richmond and DC, it is often overlooked but it has a laid back appeal and is easy to love ...
