South Carolina Trip Part 1: Columbia

I had the opportunity to perform for an outdoor market in Charleston, SC, and I decided I would do some sight seeing as well! The first night I stopped in the state capital, Columbia. A very fresh and friendly town with an upbeat vibe. Plenty of great eats at Five Points. My hotel was at the University of South Carolina and within walking distance to most of the historical area. Fredericksburg Family Reunion and Secretariat

The Rowe family reunion was hosted again at the historic George Rowe House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I first attended in 2016 which had a much larger turnout, but they do plan to host another larger turn out in 2028 for their 200th anniversary of the Rowe homestead. The history is steep in the area, with the house in the middle of the battle of Fredericksburg during the War Between The States , it was besieged by Union troops who occupied the house , and my ancestors hid in the basement the entire time. They hosted spies for the Confederate army and were supporters of the cause, and they had much little left , as the food and supplies ran out, but cornmeal to offer the troops. Historical context is important! I loved visiting Fredericksburg, which has a vibe similar to Beaufort, South Carolina. Some of the old veranda style of Fredericksburg is without match. Chicken Farm In The Shenandoah Valley

Trip locations: Augusta County , Virginia, Staunton, Churchville, Highland County, Virginia I had a nice little air b n' b stay at a chicken farm in Augusta County, Virginia. I stayed in an old spring house cottage. I was going to play First Fridays Staunton, but outdoor weather wasn't great . Instead, I headed to a nearby winery for an open mic. This was a nice retreat for me. The farm was very peaceful and serene . I had brunch today at nearby Buckhorn Inn, in Churchville, Virginia, before returning home to Richmond. The Buckhorn Inn was on the edge of the George Washington National Forest. I went up a long windy road to check out the old Confederate fort before heading back. I was right nervous on that road because unlike the major highway , without much more than a soft railing for safety , you ascend to the heavens, without much warning .
